SAVE PRESENTATION BARRANCO
were born at the initiative of a group of residents from different neighborhoods and organizations Barranco district concerned about following the imposition of metropolitan corridor, a work which goes against the historical character of the district, made without consulting the inhabitants.
For years we have supported the ineptitude, if not corruption, several municipal administrations have allowed predatory interventions of the historic area and have arranged our public assets and few green areas at will. But none of these interventions had so dramatically affected our quality of life and jeopardized our survival as a district.
neighborhood outrage was expressed clearly on 4 February this year with a massive march that had an impact on public opinion in the capital. With it we can get back the Municipality of Lima and follow the emergency measures that we have been demanding: the return of Avenida Bolognesi transit and the elimination of some public transport routes. But as we know, because I live every day, the traffic problem in Barranco is not resolved, and the final solution necessarily involves a redesign of this project which tells the view of neighbors.
Beyond these achievements, the protest was successful because it joined the Barranco of different neighborhoods, generations and social conditions, fueling hope for a different future that we have reserved the advocates of a misunderstood modernity that respects people and intends to wipe out a valuable historical heritage monuments belonging to the city. At the same time, has given us confidence that together we can tackle this and other pending issues such as Barranco proliferation of huge buildings that are densifying the district beyond what their services and resources can sustain. Now we know that we can not trust our local authorities because they could not defend the district at the time we needed it most
Save Barranco aims to reclaim our rights as individuals, as citizens, as neighbors, as owners, and as inheritors of a priceless architectural heritage, to participate actively in decisions regarding the fate of the district. This exercise in democracy and local participation has been taken as an example for residents of other neighborhoods in Lima affected by similar problems.
know that the task is not easy, that the power face is enormous, but we also know that if we do not organize now, shut up forever. We call upon the community to organize itself Barranco, participate, opine, contribution and be vigilant against attempts to discredit a fight has just begun. Save Barranco neighbors are all involved in this common endeavor.
